The Transition and Community Programme Print

Our Aims.

The Transition period between Junior and Secondary schools, for any child, is an upsetting and anxious time. At Wrenn we make the utmost effort to settle in the year 7’s to life at a secondary school. With this in mind we go out to primary schools in the 2 years leading up to Transition and work with the children in an assortment of workshops, road shows and projects.
  • The Science Road Show has been going out to primary schools for the last two years and is a mixture of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in a fun and friendly format.
  • The Forensic Workshop has been out in schools in the past year and allows the children to solve the case of the stolen diamonds!.
  • Projects such as Crystals, Snail trail and Eggtastic allow the students to try their hand at coursework which will set them up for the years to come.
  • The World view Road Show consists of resources that can be kinked into projects within primary schools. Roman pots, poverty bag games, Friendship Bracelets, Probability games and Egyptian steam engines. Link the world’s ideas to your projects.
  • Transition Lessons during the last weeks of primary school link up to induction days so that continuity continues during transition. Mrs Sam Mallett (Community Coordinator) and Mrs Gill Flaunty (Senior Lab technician) take these link lessons.
Wrenn now works with 20 primary schools in this county and beyond, and share resources and ideas within this network of schools.
As new ideas develop, the links between schools, students and families increase, making transition a much less daunting prospect.

Mrs Sam Mallett runs the Transition and Community programme at Wrenn with events that bring the students and their families into the school.
A recent Forensics Murder Mystery was run over three evenings and was a collaboration of many departments, staff and students. As it proved to be so popular more events are planned in the coming year.
Free “Family Science” and “Family Winter Crafts” also encourage families to get involved in the school, making Wrenn an active part of the community.

These events can be booked for Girl Guide, Scouts and youth groups. Contact Mrs Sam Mallett  07871 528257 or e-mail  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
