Wrenn is a school with a bright future and that’s official! I’m delighted to report that the resurgence seen at Wrenn has been very clearly recognised by the recent Ofsted inspection as the team found much to praise and comment positively on.
Inspectors reported that “behaviour of the students in lessons and throughout the school is good” and our new rewards system “is highly effective in boosting attendance, punctuality and good conduct in lessons and around the Academy”. Ofsted are right – our students are fantastic, Wrenn School is a wonderful place to be educated, and our students have a positive attitude to their studies.
Ofsted recognised the work of the new leadership within the school, supported by The Education Fellowship, “strategically driving the school forward” and rapidly developing “an ethos of raised aspirations and ambition across the Academy”. I’m so proud of the way our staff and leaders have stepped up over the last few months, energised and excited by the drive towards improvement. I’m really pleased that ALL our students can look forward to a bright future. I am very clear about our new journey to outstanding and I will be relentless in making the improvements to make sure we provide our students with the best education opportunities and life chances for their futures.
Ofsted reported on examples of “very good practice across the academy when teachers use their strong subject knowledge to engage and challenge their students so they make good progress” and they “generate a purposeful working atmosphere in lessons with students focused on their work”. Be confident that I will continue to develop our staff through a robust and transparent professional development and coaching programme, which will improve the learning opportunities for ALL our students and give our staff the tools to develop into outstanding practitioners.
As you read through each category of the full report, you can see that the many good and positive aspects show clearly how Wrenn is seen as an improving school. However we’re disappointed to have received a “requires improvement”, but nothing they said was a surprise. We are already hard at work putting the problems right and the Ofsted report shows that the inspectors could see evidence of this. The content of the report fairly reflects the current position and the journey the school is on. I’ve been clear in all of my communications to parents and carers that I have a long term vision and plan to move Wrenn to outstanding in five years: we are most definitely on track to achieve this. The leadership team are currently working very hard to produce a new strategic development plan to tackle the areas of improvement raised by Ofsted.
Let me assure you again that my staff and I will work tirelessly to ensure all students at the school have the opportunity to succeed, to achieve and to grow as individuals ready to take their place in the wider world. We are all and will continue to be “Proud to be Wrenn” and are so excited for the future.
Johnson Kane, CEO of The Education Fellowship, said “We’re delighted with this very positive report in which Ofsted clearly recognises the turnaround taking place at Wrenn School. Their report is focussed on present success and an Outstanding future, made possible because of the passion, drive and determination of the leadership, staff and students alike. It’s great to see the structures and strategies in place and staff at all levels ready to deliver an excellent education to make sure our students all achieve their full potential.”
