BTEC National Award in Sports Performance and Excellence - Level 3
INTRODUCTION The BTEC in Sports Performance and Excellence encourages students to explore and experience the world of sport. Students are encouraged to investigate, analyse and evaluate concepts, and theories in a work-related environment where all assignments are based upon situations and demands that exist in the workplace. Feedback from universities suggests that they value the additional learning that takes place on the BTEC course in combination with other suitable A-Levels, they feel that candidates are better prepared for university courses where a range of assessment styles are used.
BTEC National Award Prerequisites We will guide you to choose the BTEC if you gained a grade ‘C’ or below in your GCSE Summer Exam. This course has a proven track record in aiding pupils who are not practically strong (District, County, Regional or National Level), or who underperform in exam conditions. If you prefer coursework to revision for a final exam, or find exams very stressful then this course suits you. When you choose Sport for your option, you will be allocated to the correct course.
COURSE CONTENT For the National Award pupils have to complete six units over the two years, this is the equivalent to a single A level, and carries equal UCAS points to an A-Level (see below).
Unit 1 – The Body in Action Unit 2 – Health and Safety in Sport Unit 3 – Training and Fitness Unit 6 – Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Unit 16 – Psychology for Sports Performance Unit 26 – Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport
Learners receive points for each unit through the award of a pass, merit or distinction. These combine to allow a full range of grades from A-E. The course carries full UCAS weighting (Distinction = 120 points (A grade), Merit = 80 points (C grade), Pass = 40 points (E grade).
