The Heads of School have a significant role in leading the Sixth Form Community. They are appointed on the basis of a letter of application and an interview. They have shown themselves to be committed to seeing the Sixth Form develop still further and to have ideas on how to do it.
Heads of School are a valued aspect of the Sixth Form Community by both staff and students alike. They take on important organising roles, enabling key events and support mechanisms to be put into place for the benefit of all Sixth Formers (and often people beyond). The benefit for Heads of School is that they develop essential transferable skills which impress universities and employees. They also develop a good deal of self-confidence as a result of taking on (and achieving) the challenges encountered in the role.
This year the school has 8 Heads of School, each holding a specific role within the sixth form community.
The four responsibility posts are:
2 X Academic Mentors: will set up an academic mentoring scheme, whereby successful older students offer support to younger students if and when required. S/he will monitor how things are going and liaise with the Head of Sixth Form and Heads of Department as necessary. 4 X Social Coordinator: will lead a team of people interested in organising social activities from ‘Icebreakers’ for the new Year 12 to grand events like the Leavers’ Ball. Charities Coordinator: will aim to set up a number of charity events to involve other Sixth Formers in raising money for those less fortunate. S/he will need to liaise with appropriate members of staff and the Social Coordinator as these events should have the pay-back of being fun to participate in. Sports Coordinator: will lead a team to set up inter-form events of a sporty (in its widest sense) nature. S/he will also look to set up inter-school challenge fixtures outside of the formal PE calendar. S/he will need to liaise with the Head of PE and other interested staff.
A general job description and person specification is outlined below.
Applications for specific posts are invited from any current Year 12 students through a letter and CV. The letter should outline why you want the post, what skills you have that would enable you to do it well and any ideas you have for your role area over the next academic year.
Deadline for applications is the end of school on Monday 21st June; these should be handed into Mrs Mayes, Sixth Form Administrator.
Interviews will take place in the first week of July.
