The Wrenn School Physical Education Department is a strong team of staff with diverse talents in teaching and learning and coaching. The department are committed to providing an opportunity for all to develop their skills, understanding and improve their access to sporting opportunities.

In the curriculum, we make use of a range of activities that challenge pupils to learn and develop in a variety of ways. We have recently introduced Archery and Indoor Rowing onto the curriculum with very positive feedback from pupils.

At Key Stage 4, we currently offer GCSE Physical Education (EdExcel), BTEC First Certificate (EdExcel) and GCSE Dance (AQA). Students are guided towards the most suitable course of study.

At Key Stage 5 we offer AS and A2 Physical Education (AQA), BTEC National Award (EdExcel) and AS and A2 Dance (AQA).

We also offer a number of leadership awards at Key Stage 4. At Key Stage 5, we offer the Community Sports Leaders Award, and the Higher Sports Leaders Award. We have recently introduced delivery and assessment of the Football Association Level 1 coaching badge.

We are a successful school with many recent success and honours in the District, the County and at National Level. In particular, we participate with success nationally at Rugby, Basketball and Football. There is outstanding commitment from Physical Education Staff, other Teachers and Associate Staff in providing opportunities for all to become involved in activity, as well as providing quality coaching.

Also available for those who choose not to take part in competitive sport are ‘fun sports clubs’ that are run by a coordinator and a team of coaches taken from the sixth form. These are available on a Tuesday and a Thursday and make use of a wide variety of sports in order to engage a greater number of pupils in safe and productive physical activity.
