Wrenn School has received an Outstanding grade from OfSTED for its Sixth Form, following a recent inspection. Across the school as a whole, the report says, “Students enjoy coming to school, behave well, develop active healthy lifestyles and say they feel safe.” Parents’ comments in the report were equally supportive of Wrenn, with one parent stating, “It is a brilliant school. I would definitely recommend it.”
OfSTED inspectors were highly impressed with Wrenn’s Sixth Form, citing outstanding teaching as the reason that “students learn very well and make rapid progress.” Students told the inspectors that “teachers go out of their way, often giving up their own time, to support their learning needs.” They also valued the outstanding care, guidance and support they received, including the way the school monitored their progress and helped them improve their work.
Throughout the rest of the school, the report highlighted several further positive features, in particular the care and support students received from staff, and the wide range of activities and opportunities available. Many parents also expressed how their children had grown in confidence since attending Wrenn; one parent, quoted in the report, said, “The school has offered my daughter so many opportunities to improve.” A partner who works regularly with the school told the inspectors, “Wrenn never gives up on its students.”
Headteacher William Thallon said, “We were very pleased with the outcome of this inspection, particularly in relation to our Sixth Form. Wrenn is a strong and secure community, in which respect and care for each individual are paramount – this comes across very clearly in the report. I was delighted to see the behaviour and attitude of our students praised so highly, and the hard work of all our staff recognised.”
The GALLERY @ Wrenn is delighted to present an exhibition of artwork by Kelly Gardner.
“My work is concerned with time and memory, traces and absence. I use textiles and found garments to convey these ideas; fragments of lace and imprints of garments evoke traces and residues of lost and forgotten things. The memories we hold are fated to become selective, fragmented and faded, so this work is in part a reflection of the need to capture and preserve the memory through the use of the ‘keepsake’.
I make photograms from garments by placing them onto light sensitive paper. I use chiffon and transparent garments such as christening gowns and gloves and also glass objects. I capture a ghostly trace of them. I am interested in the sense of absence and also the trace of a human presence that is left behind. These clothes are those residues, the husks of lives.”

‘Time for Tea’ by Hannah Clarke
The GALLERY @ Wrenn is delighted to present an exhibition of artwork by Hannah Clarke.
Hannah has been a teacher at Wrenn for three years.
“The majority of the work on display will explore the theme of ‘women’s art’. Traditionally, this meant artwork that could be created from the comfort of the home, the domestic setting. Sewing and decorative pursuits were, and to some degree still are, considered a lesser art form, the art created by ladies of leisure as a way to relax. Using this stereotype as inspiration, I have based artwork around pattern, sewing, threads and images that create a delicate atmosphere. Tension is an important aspect in many of my works, it is created in a variety of ways; at times it is present because of the unusual materials used, or contrasting organic and geometric patterns.”
You are invited to attend an open evening on Monday 2nd March, 7-9pm. The exhibition continues until Friday 6th March, open daily between 4-6pm.
Parents Evenings
Parents Evening for Year 9 will now be held this coming Thursday (12th February).
Parents Evening for Year 8 will have to be postponed to Thursday 5th March.. Apologies to Year 8 students and their families for this. The reason Year 9 Parents Evening had to take priority is that Year 9 students are in the process of choosing their optional subjects for next year, and their Parents Evening is an important part of this process.
Parents Evening for Year 10 will be held Thursday 26th February
