The English Department are a strong and supportive team, who make studying English enjoyable and engaging. Our passion for English Literature and our knowledge of the English Language make these subjects very popular choices at A & AS Level. This year we have four groups in Year 12 who are studying these options.

In KS3, students are taught a variety of topics ranging from traditional & mythical texts and more creative and imaginative topics where students write their own original and engaging narratives. With the new curriculum we aim to make English an exciting and positive experience for all students.

At KS4, we study a variety of texts and resources in preparation for GCSE English & English Literature. Students are encouraged to develop their writing skills and formulate their own opinions about the texts being studied. The nature of the course also tests students’ ability to adapt their writing for different audiences and purposes.
Speaking and listening activities form an important element to the assessment and in the English Department, we hope to develop students’ confidence in various roles and activities.
