At Wrenn School Sixth Form we all recognise that, compared to many others in this country and abroad, we are extremely lucky. We aim to raise money to ensure that they can have an improved quality of life. We also recognise that we can have a good deal of fun doing it.
Our regular charitable causes are:
Fanta in the Gambia
The Gambia is a very poor country. Education has to be paid for. As a result of her family's lack of income Fanta did not go to school until she was 8. She was only able to go because of the money donated by Wrenn School Sixth Formers. We send around £95 per year to pay for her school fees, lunchtime food, uniform, books and equipment. We are currently working with Abbyfield School, Northampton, to raise funds for the building of a canteen at Fanta's school.
Jeans for Genes
Every October we devote a PSE sessons to raising awareness and money for this charity. Jeans for Genes raises money for research into genetic illnesses and the search for cures. In 2008 we raised £265
In November 2008 sixth form students were involved in various events and raised £470 for children in need.
Women's Aid
In December 2008 sixth form students recieved a visit from Wellingborough's womens aid. They gave them information on the refuges and the work they do. Students were challenged by sixth form tutors to bring in gifts for children that would be in the refuge for Christmas. The students excelled them selves and in assembly presented to the Women's Aid countless gifts. We received the following letter on the 5th of January 2009 from the Women's Aid.
RE: Donation of childrens Christmas presents:
On behalf of Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire's Women's Aid, I would like to thank you for your kind donation of the lovely presents which you all collected, which is very much appreciated by Women's Aid.
These will be allocated to families in our refuges to be given to the children at Christmas
Thank you once again for your continued support
Yours sincerely
Hamida
The Poppy Appeal
In November, we help in the selling of poppies to support the Royal British Legion. Money raised is used to help ex-services personnel overcome physical and mental injuries sustained in campaigns to preserve or establish peace across the world.
Every February we take part in a 24-Hour famine or sponsor those who do. The money is used by World Vision to pay for projects in the developing world which aim to aid local people in setting up or improving community projects. In 2007 we raised £409.60.
