GCSE Art results are consistently above the National Average
90% of students achieved A* - C in GCSE Applied Art and Design (double award) in 2008
Art clubs after school are well attended by both KS3 and KS4 students. Clubs available are Clay, Crafts, Photoshop, Printing and Wire work. We also run a specific coursework club for GCSE groups.
Exam groups have regular trips to galleries and exhibitions to enrich their understanding of art and artist’s.
We believe it is important to introduce students to art in their community and have had local artists running workshops for our students in school.
In the Art department we feel that it is vital for all students to experience new techniques and to develop artistic skills in an environment where they feel safe and where they can express their ideas.
At KS3 we offer challenging projects that allow our students to be creative; to explore their imagination and to use visual language that enhances their learning.
All students will learn the importance of developing skills such as drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. They will be introduced to a wide range of British and International artists and are encouraged to develop their own unique styles.
GCSE Fine Art
60% Coursework 40% Exam (10 hour)
Students complete three coursework projects in year 10, these help develop their skills and strengthen their understanding on how GCSE Art is assessed. These projects are teacher led to begin with, but the students are encouraged to offer their own interpretations on the themes.
In year 11, students will complete a mock exam. As the art exam is very different to other tests the students will have experienced, it is important they understand fully what is expected of them in the 10 hours. The mock exam and real exam require students to really take charge of their own projects and produce individual artworks.
