Aims and Values Print

The school is aiming to encourage its pupils to:

Learn
There is a body of acquired human knowledge sufficiently important that every pupil is entitled to share in it at whatever level his perception allows.  There are some elementary practical skills necessary in the lives of most people, and others which will enrich their leisure; many people will eventually contribute to society through the work they do; pupils will need to leave school equipped to learn the skills they will require for employment.

Understand
Learning has little value unless accompanied by understanding.

  • To want to find out why, how and what, and to know where to ask.
  • To perceive other people’s needs and behave sympathetically towards them.
  • To respect religious and moral values and to understand other people’s points of view and ways of life.
  • To communicate effectively with other people.
  • To exercise objectivity and judgement, and to respect truth.
  • To be self-reliant, self respecting, self-confident and self-disciplined.
We are seeking to provide an ordered and caring community in which our pupils can learn and understand.  We hope they will apply their abilities to think, to create and to gain experience – both of everyday life and those moments when the human spirit soars.  We hope that, when our pupils leave school, they will be young people who are secure, stable, thoughtful, honest, reliable and unselfish young people who, whatever they do, will do it as well as they can; young people prepared to contribute fully to the world in which they live.

As a place of learning we strive to be:
  • outstanding and to give all our pupils that ‘added value’
  • modern and well resourced
  • effective in our approach to learning; pupils and staff working in partnership
  • a disciplined environment
  • a leader in a genuine, multi-cultural society
