BTEC Diploma Level 3 (equivalent to studying  2 A Levels)

Course summary

This course will give you a nationally recognised vocational qualification which acts as a stepping stone to a career in media production, or for entry to higher education.

 There are four mandatory units:

  1. Digital media skills
  2. Responding to a commission
  3. Film production – fiction
  4. Media Enterprise

Students then study six optional units which are outlined below.

Each unit will be marked as a pass, merit or distinction.

What will students learn?

Over the two years students will gain an insight into a wide range of digital media areas.  The optional units we will cover are:

  • Single Camera Technique
  • Film Editing
  • Sound Editing
  • Storyboarding for digital media
  • Script Writing

Multi camera techniques

How will students be assessed?

There will be two main methods of assessment:

  • Assignments which will be marked internally (at Wrenn)
  • Assignments or a task which is set and marked by the exam board


We will use a variety of methods to assess you, different formats can be used to suit you as the individual, along with giving you opportunities to extend your research.  Assignment briefs clearly show how you can achieve your target grade and the language used is appropriate for your level of learning.
