Women in Automotive event.

On Thursday 24 May 17 year 10 girls visited Silverstone as part of the Women in Automotive event, accompanied by Miss Baigent and Mrs Vann (and Mr Byatt who kindly drove us there). The day started with a speed networking event where each table of students had the opportunity to talk to a lady who currently works in this diverse industry sector. Each session lasted 8 minutes and then the speaker moved on to the next table. This speed networking task allowed the students to hear about a wide range of different jobs and discover how each individual got to where they are now. It was also a great opportunity to ask for advice and discuss options and future plans.

After lunch there were presentations from different individuals/companies, explaining in more detail all the career opportunities available for females in this industry. Particular emphasis was put on the many apprenticeship opportunities available.

The day was very interesting and informative and hopefully it has made our students far more aware of the jobs available in this sector. The automotive industry is not just about engineering and getting your hands dirty – the job opportunities are diverse.
